New Stroke Guidelines launched July 2008

National clinical guideline for stroke, 3rd edition
Prepared by the Intercollegiate Stroke Working Party
This much-anticipated third edition of the stroke guideline provides readers with the most comprehensive coverage of stroke care to date, encompassing the whole stroke pathway from acute care through to longer-term rehabilitation and secondary prevention. It informs health professionals about what kind of care should be delivered to stroke patients and how this should be organised, with the aim of improving the quality of care for anyone who suffers a stroke, regardless of age, gender, type of stroke or location.

Stroke: National clinical guideline for diagnosis and initial management of acute stroke and transient ischaemic attack (TIA). Prepared by the NCC-CC

This guideline covers interventions in the acute stage of a stroke (acute stroke) or TIA. Most of the evidence considered relates to interventions in the first 48 hours after onset of symptoms, although some interventions of up to 2 weeks are covered as well. The guideline is a stand-alone document, but is designed to be read alongside the Intercollegiate Stroke Working Party guideline, which incorporates all the recommendations made in this guideline.
