Sickle Cell and Young Stroke Survivors

Sickle Cell & Young Stroke Survivors is a registered charity that was formerly set up as a support group for Parents/carers whose children have had a stroke.Sickle cell is one of the illnesses that cause stroke in children especially between the ages of 2 to 14 years old.

From our experience, it is difficult to get and digest the right kind of information. So as a result, the work grew from a mere support group to a charity that campaigns for change that will make a lasting difference for the children and the families involved.

As part of our activities, we carry out these main functions, which include:
·        Support, Advice and Information
·        Campaigning and raising awareness of Sickle cell and stroke in children.
·        Improving community awareness of Sickle Cell and Stroke in children, its treatment, the importance of blood donations and other health      issues by communicating with the public through various educational and outreach programmes in the community.
·        Holding monthly support groups and outings that will bring together those affected by sickle cell and stroke together to form one voice.
·        Providing respite through Saturday clubs, Play-schemes and Music clubs
·        Counselling for children and parents/carers
·        Drop ins
