Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke is a charity offering support and advice to stroke survivors and their families throughout Northern Ireland.

The charity has offices in Belfast and Derry. Support staff, with the help of dedicated volunteers, run more than 35 stroke schemes and services.

Four separate stroke services are offered:

  • Stroke Schemes provide the individual with the opportunity to attend stroke clubs for a range of rehabilitation services. Stroke Schemes ensure that individual emotional and social needs are met through a client support programme.
  • The Stroke Family Support Scheme is unique, and is the only form of home support available for stroke clients and their families in Northern Ireland that offers a whole range of practical, social and emotional guidance.
  • Young Stroke Projects have been specifically designed to meet the needs of the younger stroke client, whose requirments are radically different from their older counterparts. These pioneering projects are run in partnership with local health trusts.
  • General Stroke Clubs focus on providing a social outlet with some degree of therapeutic input. These clubs are maintained by volunteers with support from NI Chest Heart and Stroke.

NI Chest Heart and Stroke invests in high quality stroke research at hospitals and universities within Northern Ireland. This research is highly acclaimed and at times award-winning, with potential UK and worldwide benefits.

NI Chest Heart and Stroke is committed to lobbying on behalf of stroke survivors, and has been instrumental in the establishment of hospital stroke units in virtually every area of Northern Ireland.
