The College of Occupational Therapist Specialist Section - Neurological Practice
The College of Occupational Therapist Specialist Section - Neurological Practice (COTSS - Neurological Practice) is a specialist section of the College of Occupational Therapists. It was formed in 1982 as OTSIGN (Occupational Therapy Special Interest Group Neurology), changed name to NANOT (National Association of Neurological Occupational Therapists) in 1996 and was renamed in 2006 to The College of Occupational Therapist Specialist Section - Neurological Practice (COTSS - Neurological Practice).
COTSS - Neurological Practice is now one of the largest specialist sections of the College of Occupational Therapists with over 500 members who actively support and promote the development of new ideas within the field of neurology practice. This is not a stroke specific organisation but a large proportion of its members do work with stroke patients. COTSS - Neurological Practice has clinical forums for stroke, brain injury and chronic progressive disorders (the latter is temporarily disbanded).
The aims of COTSS - Neurological Practice are:
• To promote best practice in occupational therapy for people with neurological conditions.
• To improve knowledge of neurological conditions and their treatment as applied in occupational therapy.
• To encourage awareness of up-to-date approaches to assessment and treatment.
• To stimulate an exchange of ideas.
• To facilitate a network of regional support and access to resource material.
• To encourage continuing education and development of research.
